Happy New Year!
Overall today hasn’t been to shabby; off to a bit of a rough start…just getting over head cold, so we did not go out on visits today. Hope that Marie is feeling better, she was under the weather as well.
Dave spent much of the day taking apart the stove we brought home. It is a well-used, enamelled, cast iron six-eye wood burning stove. The shelf behind the top, it has white glaze enamel coat. It does have the water chamber/tank with it; Dave will have to give it a cleaning, and do some repairs — for now, it has a home here.
The morning was quiet, I ate breakfast, then Dave began working on the stove. Late, I went an rested until about lunch time (the sinus medicine helped with get rid of my morning headache). When I looked at the clock from under the bed covers, I realized the over heat lights were not on; nor was the alarm clock.
Walked downstairs and saw that Dave had the battery lamp in the kitchen on.
It was nearly 1:45, and the only thing I could fix for lunch was ‘cold’ turkey sandwiches.
(The pizza from last night is still in the fridge.)
Dave said the power company had told him the power should be restored by/before 3:00pm.
He went back to the stove/project; and I went upstairs to my laptop. There were few things could do without the internet connection — I cleared some tabs (saved them), and did a bit on some genealogy stuff.
The power came back on around 2:e45.
With the lights returning, I began clearing the mound of laundry in the bathroom — the dryer had towels in it; so those got folded and put away.
By the time I had the washer loded, I heard a “bang…rattle, rattle, bump, …bang.”
I grabebed my work boots on the out the back door, and found Dave moving the covered grill. He was wanting to use the front door of the Q-hut, but the grill had to be moved first.
With the grill tucked under the cover i the back yard, Dave continue with the store work; and I went inside and began clearing the clutter of wrapping paper, scotch tape, and other tidbits from the wrapping for Christmas.
Things were quiet, until around 4:30 — feeding time for the cats.
The weather was warm today, so the tomcats (“Red” and “Boris, the Gray”) decided they needed to argue as to who was “top cat” — not something that I sallow at feeding time.
I grabbed a long stick (but they ignored me)…I saw the milk jug of water I leave for their bowls; grabbed it took the top off, and dowsed them with as much water as I could.
Neither tomcat liked that; they slinked off in opposite directions, and did not bother eating with the other cats.
Before dark fell; Dave and I moved more firewood next the backdoor; the weather is expected to be in the teens for several days — having wood close in such temps is always good.
Tonight, I hooked up my external CPU monitor to my laptop. The first time in many months that I have been able to connect more than two USB devices without the ‘other’ keyboard(s) in the ‘chain of communication’.

It is a delight to have a large screen to surf the Internet.

The set-up as it is tonight:
One external harddrive, an external keyboard, (no printer yet), a mouse, a UBS thumb-drive, and a extension cable hooked up to another USB port on the monitor.

Next addition will be the printer/scanner combo (have not moved it into the work area, wanted to be sure everything else was working properly before adding the final piece).

It things don’t work out (elbow-room and desk area); then I will have to relocate everything somewhere else…not something I feel quite up to yet.

Well, for the first day of 2012 — it has been an adventure, not to hectic/not too quiet; warm. dry weather; had a good conversation on the phone with Mom, and great dinner of ham, turnip greens and black-eyed peas.

How was your day?

LAST Friday of 2011

What have I done on the last Friday of 2011?
Spent much of the day resting; hoping to recover from a head cold that has dampened things for me this week. Have not been able to get much done.
Dave has spent the past few days working on clocks, computer projects,, as well as cutting trees for firewood.

I helped him stacked over a chord/cord of logs earlier this week; today he was able to bring 5 split, large rounds of an oak tree from the other side of the creek, just before dark. I watched him bring in the trailer while I was feeding the cats their evening meal.

Me? I warmed lunch, took cold meds; rest much of the afternoon, helped Dave with errands, and then warmed dinner.

After a visit from a close friend, Dave and I found we needed some things from the store. Thus we made our way to Jacksonville’s Walmart, and did a short lap around the grocery section.
We picked a few items, then came back home. No side trips this evening.

After dinner, I came back upstairs and checked messages on my computer; then watched a British comedy on Hulu.com — “SPY” is pretty good, if a bit odd for American viewers.

Must get down to ‘prep’ the dishes for breakfast — may be back before calling it a night — just will have to see. For now, the dirty dishes await.

PS: I was able to get 3 braided wristbands done this evening — as far as weaving goes, I did get ‘something’ done. Just wish I felt better. A bit of wine, crawl under thick covers, and rest as much as possible — I trust things will be better overall, tomorrow. New Year’s come however feel…would like for it to be good evening. — CAA

It is as COMPLETE as I have at present. If you find errors, have additional information or family photos you would to share with me — email me. As my schedule allows I will add photos I have found that relate to this “branch” and related families.

Thank you for visiting.

Chastain Ancestors – and Related Kin

Just found several connections from the Owen through the Eller family up to and including a marriage (several actually) between ELLER and CHASTAIN folks.
Who, where, and which location?
That I will post later on.
Generally speaking the Chastain family came to Virginia, then like many families migrated down the coast; and eventually settled for several generations in South Carolina (which portion would later become part of Georgia).
No family tree is simple — especially for families who were “pioneers” that migrated to the American Colonies — and whose descendants still live in the Southern US, today.

The earliest ancestors that I have been able to trace online is Geoffroi Chastain whomarried Louise De Preuilly. He was born abt 1835 in Bourges, Cher, France; and died – 29 October 1429 in the Battle of Patai (at age 44).

WEll add more as I can ‘sort the details out.’

Snow Days and Family Trees?

It has been a snow/ice day in Alabama today.
How does that related to family trees?
Well, since I am indoors from the weather, and have the flu-bug to boot, it means when I have had the brief burst(s) of energy — I have added a bit more to several ancestral branches.
No huge breakthroughs, but have made several connection I did not expect.
Last couple I stopped at was William N. Collins and Permelia Mary “Melia” Smith — don’t ask how I ended up with this couple.
They were somehow connect to the various families that I was tracing, from the Yancey County (Bald Mountain region) of North Carolina.
No family tree is SIMPLE…anyone who tells you that, has not done much research.
Somehow, the folks I have added to my main family tree file most likely are related to my Aunt Betty Jean Davis (Abernathy).
Her ancestral line is where I began today’s research project…
Okay, I am not getting much more done on this blog or the research…guess I need to get something to drink and get back to doing ‘something’ while the dryer is get the clothes done.
Another update will be in the works as soon as I find something news-worthy.

Family Tree Progress

Okay, let’s do a quick wrap-up here…

The PARK family has descendency ties to Robert E. Lee; his ancestor who was George Washington’s wife (maiden name CUSTIS); PARK/PARKE/PARKS descendants are connected to the Burchfields — the Burchfields via the Park line (somewhere) are kin to the Gustafsson/Justice family originally from Sweden; and how did I get here (this time)?

Tracing the Davis-Smathers connection of Aunt Betty Davis (married – Jack Abernathy) — trying to learn about her father’s family.

The other point of interest is the ties to a Cherokee Chief Oowahooskie (various spellings found). His ‘wife’ had been captured from a white settlement/group when she was about six years old. They had three sons; she and the sons were later released — they lived as white men, and were land-holders. This made for Cherokee heritage claims with US courts unsuccessful — but the Indian connection seems valid from research/sources found online, now.

There is also a connection between the PARK family and a CHANDLER line in Georgia…will follow this up later.

Another connection exist between the DAVIS line and the CARPENTER (ZIMMERMAN) families from North Carolina — this warrants further research, since my mother and my father’s ancestral line include connection to the CARPENTER (ZIMMERMAN) lines from the Carolinas.

NO direct Patey/PATE/PATTY connections — but have found AYERS/AYRES, PAYNE, and McClellan connections in the Carolina regions (where my husbands family were from)…The PAYNE connection may link up with the TEAGUE, SPEER, PERRY, OWEN or other related families who later migrated to NE Alabama (near Ft. Payne).

With the research from the past three days — “We are all kin” has more meaning then is previously did, for me.

Each friend I have helped with their family tree research, I have also found something that fit with prior research for my own complicated ancestral lines.

Are your ancestors included in this tangle of kinfolks?

Contact me with a bit of your grandparents vital statics (dates, location, family members) — I will see what I can find.

Hot Day

7 July 2010
One very hot day.
Dave and I delivered groceries to Mom; then headed back home.
Stopped at a few thrift/antique stores along the way.
Since getting in the AC, and starting to cool off, have been reading messages, and adding/correcting more items on my websites (somewhat set in havoc by my previous computer dying); as well as blogs, and misc. stuff.
Need to get things sorted out with this new laptop, get it behaving the way I want it; so I will be able to create a backup set of RECOVERY disks — then get Dave to set it for dual-boot (Windows 7 and Linux).
My head is pounding, so I won’t do much more for now.
How has your week been?
Would love to hear from my readers.
